Review
Who isn't familiar with the stress of parents nagging you to get a boyfriend already, every time you attend a family holiday event alone? Me. I'm not familiar with that at all. Maybe because I was married at 22, and had brought boyfriends home before that. But does this really happen as often as movies make it seem like it does?
In any case, Peter has been facing that for a while, but he thought this year would be different. Right up until his roommate/best friend, Nick, informed him that his boyfriend has a wife. Peter has already told his family he's bringing home a surprise and doesn't want to let them down, so he convinces Nick to pretend to be his boyfriend for the holidays.
The ruse never really gets off the ground though because Mom has set Peter up with a blind date with her gay spin instructor who is new to town. The family has wanted Peter to move back home from LA for ages and this is the perfect way to make that happen.
Sparks fly. There's skiing, Christmas tree buying and decorating, a Christmas play to prepare for, annual holiday gift wrapping and a major turning point for Peter.
And this movie borders on not being a Christmas movie, but I think there's just enough holiday magic to put it over the line.
