Review

I had intended to watch this movie last year and then didn't for some reason. I kind of wish I had though because I think I'm being more critical of holiday movies this year, and this is not a Christmas movie. Sure, Christmas is the deadline for a deal these two make, they spend a fun day in the snow, and they host a Christmas party at the castle, but none of the rest of the Christmas magic is there. Except for the day in the snow (which could still happen in at least three months of the year) the rest of it could have easily happened any time.

In this movie, Cary Elwes plays a grumpy old Scottish duke who is abut to lose his castle to the bank. Then along comes Brooke Shields, a best-selling American author whose father got busted carving his name in a doorjamb of said castle, and she wants to buy it.

From there, the movie has a very Beauty and the Beast feeling to it. Shield's starts having fun with the castle staff, and Elwes begrudgingly accepts her presence, kind of, but also really wants her to just leave already. The more I think about it, this whole movie is pretty much a Beauty and the Beast retelling, minus the angry villagers trying to kill the beast.
