Review

You know how they say "be careful what you wish for?" Well Elizabeth learns that the hard way much like Mel Gibson did in What Women Want. This is another rom-com that just isn't really a Christmas movie. It's set during Christmas time, but other than Christmas day being an arbitrary deadline for a sales quota goal, Christmas doesn't affect the plot of the story. It could just as easily have been set in July.

In spite of the movie not being a Christmas movie, I was cheering for Elizabeth to achieve her goals because girl power, but also because a man acting the exact same way she does wouldn't be viewed as unlikeable like she is, at least not to the same extent. Women are expected to be nice, but being nice doesn't get us ahead in the corporate world. She didn't become VP by being nice, she became VP by doing her job well, and sometimes that means not being nice. I do appreciate her change for the better and her greater awareness, but only because it brought her to love and helped her meet her goal.

The movie was decent, but not one you wanna watch if you're looking for Christmas cheese. - Katie
