popsynop
Paisley Hull fell in love at sixteen; the forever kind of love: unexpected, passionate, consuming - her first. She never thought she could walk away from that kind of passion. Ignoring her heart, guided by her head, she never looked back. Blindsided by the beauty of a tiny, hazel-eyed vixen, Jake Grant fell head over heels in love, vowing to keep her protected and not let his past taint her. He may have been overzealous in his attempts to show her how much he cherished her but he never thought she would walk away without a fight. Nine years later, a now divorced Jake has a chance encounter with an engaged Paisley just a few short weeks before she is set to walk down the aisle. Wondering if they gave up too easily, the two embark on a journey through the jagged edges of their past. Can they overcome the obstacles to finally become one or is it too late for their second chance? paisley

*Blog Tour* Second Opinion by Lisa Suzanne

Synopsis
What do you do when the person you love most in the world breaks your heart… twice? Grant’s solution is avoiding relationships. Four years since the last time he saw Rachelle, his heart still can’t take another break.

“You’re not marriage material.” From the time he’d first heard those words spoken by the woman he loved, Grant Carpenter believed them.

When a woman he’s known for years shows an interest in him, he starts to question Rachelle’s words about marriage material, wondering if he might need a second opinion. Someone in the present, someone who has always been in the periphery but who he never gave a second glance, starts to take over his every thought.

Grant is armed with plenty of reasons to ignore what he’s feeling, but someone who should remain off-limits is suddenly overshadowing his obsession with his past. She’s making him want a future that he thought he’d written off, but he isn’t sure that she wants a future with him.

Ultimately, he has to decide what to do when the past makes her way back into his present.

This is a standalone novel that is a spin-off of SIDE EFFECTS and is told from the point of view of Quinn's brother, Grant.

Review

After being hurt by his first love, Grant becomes the quintessential playboy, a real hit it and quit it kind of guy, and it works for him until his sister's engagement party when he really notices Avery for the first time. He suddenly finds himself not quite ready to quit it anymore.

I have read almost everything Lisa Suzanne has written at this point, and I really enjoy her sweet boy-next-door main characters. Grant was a slight variation on that, being a playboy next door, but deep down you can tell he's still a genuinely good guy. I absolutely loved the relationship between Grant and Avery, and a lot of their interactions were hilarious. Their quick-witted banter had me cracking up.

You know it wouldn't be a book about a playboy without some hot sex, and the sex scenes in Second Opinion were definitely sizzling (I don't even feel the need to seek a second opinion on that matter).

I would definitely recommend this book to fans of more traditional romance that enjoy a little spice in their story.  4 Stars. - Katie

*Blog Tour and Giveaway* Spark of Light by Elizabeth Tuttle

Series: Avery #1
Release date: September 25th 2014
Purchase: Amazon | B&N

Synopsis via Goodreads:

***Mature YA - This book contains mild adult language and sexual content.***

Nearly a century ago the world was decimated by a magical war. In their defeat, elves were captured by humans, cut off from their magic, and broken down into lifeless, drone-like slaves.

Avery is different. Somehow, her magic has always simmered beneath the surface. Never completely broken, she must pretend in order to survive. When Zander, her master’s nephew, brings her magic out in full force, she finds out what it’s like to truly be alive.

Ripped from Zander’s side and sent to The Farm, Avery doesn’t know if she’ll be able to hide her light and make it out alive. But there, she’ll meet someone who knows her true purpose.

The war isn’t over, and if Avery can survive, she could be the one to set her people free. All it takes is a little hope and a Spark of Light.

Review
I was totally enthralled by this dystopian tale. Avery's life is very reminiscent of accounts of pre-civil war slavery, or at least fictionalized accounts of it. While it's difficult for me to really imagine the pain, suffering, and degradation involved, the descriptions made me feel almost as if I were there, watching, an innocent bystander.

This story is told in first person and there were a few aspects of Avery's life as a slave that confused me at first, from a general common sense standpoint. But as Avery learned more about her existence, so did I, and everything started to make a lot more sense. Life on The Farm was very interesting, to say the least.

The premise of the story was original and engaging, keeping me tethered to my Kindle until the very end. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. 5 Magical Stars. - Katie

*Review* The Spice of Life by Jake Furie Lapin

TheSpiceofLifeCover
  aaf08-addtogoodreads
Synopsis
The Spice of Life (or TSOL, to fans) follows Jake Furie Lapin, a 37-year-old sexaholic and loving Dom. As the first book in a three-part series, TSOL explores Jake’s transformation from a submissive, out-of-shape man, stuck in a sexless marriage, to a strong, successful, fit, loving Dom. This first book follows Jake as he describes his many sexual adventures, in great detail, to Kelli, his sex therapist. Kelli Lemberg is a successful sex therapist who has an office-based practice in Manhattan. Like Jake, Kelli finds herself trapped in a marriage that is lacking heat and passion. Through her sex therapy sessions with Jake, Kelli begins to undergo an amazing transformation of her own, as she uncovers and explores the depths of her own inner sexuality and sensual fire.

Review
Reviewed By: Kristi Lynn (Droney)
The Spice of Life takes the reader on journey of transformation for Jake Furie Lapin. This first part of the book shows the voyage of an overweight, out of shape man in a unhappy marriage to him becoming healthy, successful and loving Dom. In this first part of the book we learn about the path that Jake has taken to transform his life. We learn this when he explains his story in great detail to his sex therapist Kelly.  Kelly Lemberg, Jake’s therapist is finding herself unsatisfied in her marriage. The passion that she wishes were present is nowhere to be found. Through her meetings with Jake, Kelly begins to uncover the depths of her sexuality and sensuality.
This book is part one of this three part series. I thought it was a great introduction to the story. Both Jake and Kelly were characters who were easy to identify with and relate to. I think Jake does a good job at telling his story in a different way. At times I felt like I was reading a diary or a personal monologue more than a novel. I thought this approach was unique and it held my attention throughout. The way the story was written made it easy to actually visualize the transformation that both characters were undergoing. While I really enjoyed the writing and the uniqueness of this story, there is one thing personally for me that I have a hard time with in any book and that is cheating. Rather then decide that a marriage is not working and move on, the characters turn to emotionally and physically cheating on their spouses. Because there was cheating present in this book (and I dislike that) I am giving this book four stars.

Once upon a time in the boot of Louisiana, a young girl made a mess of things and began writing dark poetry to cope. She often found herself day dreaming, creating stories in a far away land that didn't exist and was always out of her reach. Her mission was to move on, find love and a reason to believe in the beautiful things in life. She didn't expect to be counting her blessings daily for all that she has found since then.  Her once dark poetry became colorful and bright—it became music. She found purpose and her make believe stories slowly vanished away. Her poetry also sat in the backseat as more important things took priority. However, life can catapult you in the blink of an eye. A long forgotten coping mechanism of writing would once again become her escape. This time, though, she realized that this escape where she created stories was not a curse, but a gift. Embracing her vice, she breathes life into her characters and poetically weaves together stories for readers to enjoy.  She is no longer the young girl who feared the unknown, but is stronger and has faith that beautiful things will always be in reach. She is married to her best friend, and is a mom to three beautiful daughters who are her favorite cheerleaders. She is excited to have the opportunity to share her love of writing with readers. The stories are fictional, but they are real to her. She has always felt things passionately and this new journey as an author is no different. She is no longer looking back, but looking ahead to this amazing adventure with all of you. She invites you to connect with her if you desire to do so.
