*31 Days of Christmas* Reunited at Christmas

Thanksgiving is over and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun (at least in my house). I don't limit myself to just reading cheesy Christmas romances during this time of year. Oh no. I also find myself binge watching Christmas movies on Netflix and the Hallmark Channel. And I thought, why not incorporate that into my blog as well. So I give you the 31 Days of Christmas (which will be much easier to accomplish with movies than books like I've tried to do in past years).

Next up is Reunited at Christmas.

Watched on: Hallmark
Duration: 2 hours (with commercials)
Originally aired on: 21 November 2018
Directed by: Steven R. Monroe
Starring: Nikki Deloach, Mike Faiola, and Lisa Durupt
Please see IMDb for full cast and crew info.

Synopsis

Frazzled and struggling with writer's block, novelist Samantha (Deloach), along with her boyfriend, heads home to her late grandmother's home to spend Christmas. While at home with family, her grandmother's wise words reveal the true meaning of Christmas with Samantha at a time when she most needs encouragement.

Review

This movie didn't fit into the typical Christmas holiday romance mold, because Samantha and Simon are already a couple. In fact, I was a bit let down in the storyline, because none of what I expected based on the title of the movie and my vast experience with watching Hallmark movies, actually happened. And I understand that some people definitely want something different from the typical mold, but the big draw for Hallmark Christmas movies for me is the predictability and a little bit the fact that they are so similar.

So not only did this movie not fit the typical mold, but it didn't really give me the warm fuzzy Christmas feelings I expect from a Hallmark Christmas movie. While the characters partook in several typical Christmas traditions, they did so because they were on a list left by Nana who had recently passed, and they felt more forced than festive. I guess I want to see those things either being spontaneous or an entire communities' tradition that a newbie gets to join in for.

This movie includes an awkward family reunion, an unexpected proposal, gingerbread baking, and tree decorating.

While I wouldn't change the channel if this came on tv, I wouldn't seek it out for another viewing, and I'd probably spend the time while it was on engaged in other activities.
