*31 Days of Christmas* The Christmas Chronicles

Thanksgiving is over and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun (at least in my house). I don't limit myself to just reading cheesy Christmas romances during this time of year. Oh no. I also find myself binge watching Christmas movies on Netflix and the Hallmark Channel. And I thought, why not incorporate that into my blog as well. So I give you the 31 Days of Christmas (which will be much easier to accomplish with movies than books like I've tried to do in past years).

Next up is The Christmas Chronicles.

Watched on: Netflix
Duration: 1 hour, 44 minutes
Originally aired on: 22 November 2018
Directed by: Clay Kaytis
Starring: Kurt Russell, Darby Camp, and Judah Lewis
Please see IMDb for full cast and crew info.

Synopsis

Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it's too late.

Review

Kurt Russell is not your average Santa Claus. He's not fat (an issue that is brought up more than once during the movie) and he's not particularly jolly, and yet he still fully engenders the overall spirit of St. Nick. I mean, you can't really blame the guy for not being all giggles after losing his hat, bag, and reindeer and crashing his sleigh all because a couple of kids decided to hitch a ride for the night.

This is a classic Christmas rescue movie; Santa's on the verge of not completing his deliveries, Christmas spirit is running low, and none of the adults believe he's the real deal. Things that set this movie apart are Santa's willingness to break the rules, the jailhouse rock sequence, and the wariness of Santa's reindeer and elves where humans are concerned.

This movie includes a catastrophic sleigh crash, a reindeer ride, a sassy Santa, a trip to the North Pole, and a couple of kids saving the day.

This is a movie I will definitely be watching with the children during their Christmas break, possibly while we're decorating sugar cookies and building gingerbread houses (I have lofty goals for their time off school).
