*31 Days of Christmas* It's Christmas, Eve

Thanksgiving is over and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun (at least in my house). I don't limit myself to just reading cheesy Christmas romances during this time of year. Oh no. I also find myself binge watching Christmas movies on Netflix and the Hallmark Channel. And I thought, why not incorporate that into my blog as well. So I give you the 31 Days of Christmas (which will be much easier to accomplish with movies than books like I've tried to do in past years).

Next up is It's Christmas, Eve.

Watched on: Hallmark
Duration: 1 hour, 27 minutes
Originally aired on: 10 November 2018
Directed by: Tibor Takacs
Starring: LeAnn Rimes, Tyler Hynes, and Gwynyth Walsh

Synopsis

As interim school superintendent Eve trims budgets, and now she’s in her hometown where it’s personal. Her handsome neighbor Liam is a music teacher and Eve feels his program must be cut. But luckily her friend is married to an IT guy, who’s created a website for donations directly to save the Arts program. Launched during the tree lighting ceremony, where Liam’s students will perform, the website could provide the Christmas miracle the town needs. Already the Universe is cooperating. Eve is back home and she, Liam and his daughter look like they might be celebrating many a future Christmas.

Review

This is a unique movie in that it doesn't feature a natural grinch in either of the main characters. That doesn't mean that Eve isn't going to destroy the local holiday spirit with her actions, but it's not something that she wants to do. That makes this movie a story about the spirit of Christmas showing a woman who is good at what she does another way to approach things that may make everyone happy.

The tension between the main characters is minimal because they're both adults and they both understand what their jobs mean in reference to the other. The story itself is all too realistic these days with arts programs being cut in schools across the nation, and I appreciated that it felt natural and not over the top.

This movie includes a Christmas tree squabble, a romantic surprise, an impromptu holiday concert, and a couple of people who rediscover a previous love.

I'm not sure if I'd make this a movie I'd watch annually, but I would immediately change the channel if it came on.
