*31 Days of Christmas* Entertaining Christmas

Thanksgiving is over and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun (at least in my house). I don't limit myself to just reading cheesy Christmas romances during this time of year. Oh no. I also find myself binge watching Christmas movies on Netflix and the Hallmark Channel. And I thought, why not incorporate that into my blog as well. So I give you the 31 Days of Christmas (which will be much easier to accomplish with movies than books like I've tried to do in past years).

Next up is Entertaining Christmas.

Watched on: Hallmark
Duration: 2 hours (with commercials)
Originally aired on: 16 December 2018
Directed by: Robin Dunne
Starring: Jodie Sweetin, Tamara Almeida, and Brendan Fehr
Please see IMDb for full cast and crew info.

Synopsis

Claire is a cookbook author, crafting expert, and television personality whose name is synonymous with perfection. As she contemplates retirement, her daughter Candace (Sweetin) is poised to become the new face of the Livingston brand. The only trouble is, Candace can't cook. Or sew. Or do any of the signature things her mother is known for. When a young girl posts a video online requesting Claire help welcome her deployed father home for Christmas, Candace is sent in her place in an effort to prove herself a worthy successor to the board of directors and win the job. As Candace does her best to make a good impression, she gets more than she bargained for when the young girl's uncle Jon turns out to be a reporter for the local paper, looking for his next story.

Review

Candace has some very big shoes to fill and she's not exactly a Holly Homemaker type. She heads to little Cedar Falls to help set up a homecoming party for a returning service member, who just happens to be delayed in returning (that is actually very believable, especially since his return date was so widely spread online. That's a big OPSEC no-no.) So she agrees to stay until he gets back because it's so important to the service member's daughter.

Candace and Jon are natural adversaries. She's a bit of a celebrity with something to hide and he's a reporter who wants to write a story about her. They don't inherently dislike each other, but Candace is guarded around him with good reason. In spite of the fact that Candace is hiding so many aspects of herself, she and Jon manage to bond over their similarities and their similar desires. She comes across as a bit of a fraud because of the expectations of others, and it's rather sad.

This movie includes a gingerbread house competition, community Christmas tree decorating, and a last minute community Christmas dinner.

I would definitely watch this movie again next year.
