SISTERS, SECRETS, LOVE, AND MURDER... Sally Hepworth’s novel Darling Girls has it all.
For as long as they can remember, Jessica, Norah, and Alicia have been told how lucky they are. As young girls they were rescued from family tragedies and raised by a loving foster mother, Miss Fairchild, on an idyllic farming estate and given an elusive second chance at a happy family life.
But their childhood wasn’t the fairy tale everyone thinks it was. Miss Fairchild had rules. Miss Fairchild could be unpredictable. And Miss Fairchild was never, ever to be crossed. In a moment of desperation, the three broke away from Miss Fairchild and thought they were free. Even though they never saw her again, she was always somewhere in the shadows of their minds. When a body is discovered under the home they grew up in, the foster sisters find themselves thrust into the spotlight as key witnesses. Or are they prime suspects?
A thrilling page-turner of sisterhood, secrets, love, and murder by New York Times bestselling author Sally Hepworth.

This was the December book pick for my Thrills and Chills book club. This is my honest review.
This book was all over the internet last year, so it was not a big surprise when my original thriller book club chose to read it. What did surprise me is how mediocre I found the story, considering all the hype I'd seen about it leading up to it being selected.
Part of my problem with the story was the therapist scenes, and how they're portrayed. It annoyed me that they were portrayed from Jessica's POV when they were very clearly not Jessica's sessions, and that because obvious very early on. Once that was clear, it was an obvious misdirect, but that doesn't make it less annoying. The final twist left a fair amount to be desired too.
I did like the relationships between the girls and seeing the way those bonds were formed and nurtured. I appreciated seeing the girls' backstories as well, to help explain why they are the way they are.
Overall I give Darling Girls 3.2748 out of 5 stars. - Katie
