Synopsis

Avery and Logan haven't spoken in the 10 years since they broke up. As Christmas approaches, they discover that their new partners are siblings, and both of them have been invited to stay with the family for the holidays. Avery proposes that they keep their past a secret to avoid any awkward confrontations, but hiding the truth turns out to be more difficult than it seems--and spending time together reignites old sparks.

Review

In a desperate bid to get Avery to not move to England for a job after her mom's untimely death, Logan proposes, and Avery turns him down and they break up. Ten years pass, they've both moved on and are dating other people and it's the holidays. I got the impression that Avery has spent time with her boyfriend's family before, because she is absolutely dreading facing his mom (with good reason). But the family LOVES Logan when they meet him. So they choose to not reveal their connection, thinking that would make things awkward, but things are still awkward. Especially after the outcast youngest child in the host family finds out. After that, not much turns out the way anyone expects.

But is it a Christmas movie? Let's check the facts! The reason Logan and Avery are even there is to celebrate Christmas, there is a Christmas tree hunting expedition, a Christmas Eve service at church, a cookie exchange, and a white elephant gift exchange shopping trip. So yes, but only barely because only Avery and Logan are there to get the Christmas tree, the cookie exchange doesn't include a baking sequence, and the shopping trip wasn't a major part of the storyline either. Like, the movie tried, but it didn't hit the mark for real holiday magic. I'd definitely watch the movie again because it had a Four Christmases feel to it and I like that aspect of things.
