Review
Kathy's life is pretty much a hot mess since her husband passed away. Her house seems to have no heat, but with her handyman husband out of the picture, and her job not making her much more than what she needs to pay her bills, getting a working heater in her house is the least of her worries apparently. She receives a red scarf from the local thrift store owner (I think it's a thrift store) because the owner believes it will bring Kathy luck in love. As she's walking home, she passes the towns snowman competition entries, which includes a rather humanlike (snow)man upon which she bestows the scarf, bringing him to life. Because he's naked, he breaks into the thrift store from whence his scarf came to get some clothes, and the rest of the movie is Kathy trying to keep him away from the local cops who want to arrest him, even after the store owner says everything's been made right.
So is it a Christmas movie? Let's check the facts? Jack starts out as a literal snowman, there's decorating for a school holiday dance which Jack and Kathy chaperone, Boyle from Brooklyn 99 (who is a police deputy) teaches Jack how to dance, and the whole town comes together to bail him out of jail on Christmas Eve to save him from melting. I'm gonna have to say that no, this movie does not quite meet the requirements for a Christmas movie. The heartwarming scenes don't center around Christmas magic activities and snow exists at times that are not Christmas. It has the suggestion of Christmas magic, but it just didn't follow through. I would definitely recommend watching it though because it was an enjoyable movie, just not a Christmas one. - Katie
