Synopsis
Family friends Sam and Kat spend every Christmas Eve at the Children's Table. They grow up together, sharing the highs and lows of young adulthood. And at thirty, Sam realizes that Kat is the one...but he's afraid that the past will get in the way.
Review
This love story builds over a couple decades, starting when Sam and Kat are children. And it is a roller coaster, partially because the characters start as children. I actually wasn't even sure that this really was a love story until pretty much the end of the movie.
The friendship between these two is shown almost exclusively through an annual Christmas dinner hosted by Mrs. McFly, where they never leave the kids table, even after they "grow up." They instigate shenanigans, leading the children in mischief, and Mrs. McFly takes it all in stride, but never lets them leave a mess.
I've never considered my spouse my best friend like a lot of couples do, because I don't think he should have to fill that role too, but if we'd had a relationship like Sam and Kat, I would. They are clearly each other's everything, even when they really don't want to be. It's debatable whether this is a Christmas movie, but I'm leaning towards yes.
