*Review* Prey to the Heart by Kristen Banet

Genre: Paranormal Erotica
Published: June 15, 2018

She sees them and wants to bolt.
They see her and want to chase.

Abigail Harris has spent her life searching for a place to belong. One phone call and a new job working for the Kingson Pride means she may have found it. Everything about Wild Junction calls to her and her inner animal. There's only one problem.

Also new to Wild Junction are Thomas, James, and Antonio-men who set Abigail's prey instincts on edge and drive her body wild with temptation. The wolves are just looking for a new start, having lost everything they once held dear. Abigail might be that new start.

*The Wolves of Wild Junction is a steamy Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance duology. The leading lady will not choose between her three love interests. Intended for mature audiences.*
*Set in the Wild Junction Universe. It is not required to read the Kingson Pride before starting the Wolves of Wild Junction.*

I was hired to proofread this book. The only aspects of the story that I influenced were the spelling and grammar. If you feel that my connection to this book makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

I think pretty much everyone is pretty familiar with the idea of shifters by this point. I know I am even though I don't read very many shifter novels because I don't go in for the alpha "do as I say" attitude that seems to be so prominent in them. But one thing I didn't think I'd ever see was a shifter novel featuring a shifter that wasn't a predator of some sort (wolf, bear, big cat). In fact, before getting my hands on this book, I'd joked on another author's post on Facebook that her next shifter should be a meerkat (because how hilarious and adorable would that be! Please someone make this happen.) So I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading this and discovered that Abigail is a deer. It's not a meerkat, but it's closer.

I really enjoyed the dynamics of the shifter community in this book. It had kind of a Zootopia feeling to it, where the prey shouldn't need to fear the predators because they're also all human to an extent, but it didn't totally discount the natural instincts of the animals either.

And that brings me to the romance/lust of the story. Abigail has a tendency to be attracted to men that would traditionally be considered bad for her...so the typical bad boy trope, but taken up a notch since wolves naturally prey on deer. But there are aspects to the story that I hesitate to discuss (because spoilers) that in my opinion made the wolves an ideal match for Abigail. And the fact that the alphas in this story didn't have the traditional domineering alpha spirit that I'm not so fond of was icing on the cake for me.

Overall I give Prey to the Heart 4.500764 stars. - Katie

Kristen Banet has a Diet Coke problem and smokes too much. She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking.

She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head.

She might just be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.

Check out her social media to catch what's going on in the worlds inside her head. She drops teasers, new covers, and opens ARC reader slots through her Facebook group, The Banet Pride.
