*Review* Mermaid Waters by Ginna Moran

Genre: YA/Paranormal Romance
Published: June 8, 2018
Pages: 300

As the daughter of a shunned merman king stripped of his ocean magic, eighteen-year-old Luna ventures to the shores of Southern California for a life on land. She strives to find love and her long lost human relatives in hopes of establishing a human identity to help the mermaid colonies in the sea flourish.

All her dreams seem to be within reach after a local beach cleanup draws Luna to handsome Ryan Reyes, a free diver in search of adventure, who loves the ocean as much as she does. But after both the land and the sea test Luna’s new relationship with Ryan, Luna discovers she’s not the only one with a secret—and Ryan’s threatens her existence on land.

To escape Ryan’s treacherous past and create a future with her potential mate, Luna must learn to navigate the dangerous surface. If she can’t, her dream of living on land will wash away, forcing her back into the ocean.

I was hired to proofread this book. The only aspects of the story that I influenced were the spelling and grammar. If you feel that my connection to the book makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

Y'all, I've wanted Luna's story ever since I met her in Treading Water, although to be perfectly honest, I wanted her pre-Ava story, and that's not what this is, so I'm going to have to bug Ms. Moran to get her to give us that too (sometimes she gives into my whims). This story picks up around where Washing Ashore left off. While Luna is still technically considered a mermaid princess, she isn't exactly treated like one by most of her kind anymore all because of the actions of her father. That kind of pisses me off because it's not like she could do much to stop her father.

Luckily, she has a new pod in the form of Ava's friends, particularly Giselle who basically takes Luna under her wing, helping her to adapt to the human world and find her mate. If I wasn't so in love with Luna's naivety, Giselle would be my favorite character. As it is, she comes in a close second because she is always there for her friends when they need her.

Then there's Ryan. Sweet, dreamy Ryan. Ryan who is starting to edge out Carter as my favorite Ginna Moran book boyfriend. And I don't even feel like I can say much about Ryan specifically without running the risk of spoiling parts of the story for you, so just know that I'm a big fan of Ryan.

Overall I give Mermaid Waters 4.989999 stars. - Katie

  1. Thanks for this! Merman courting is such a competition of romance that Ryan appreciates that you think he's cut out to date a mermaid princess even though he's human. Also, Carter promises to up his game even more in his next book. :)
