*Joood's Reviews* Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

You may or may not know this already, but Joood - Hooligan of Platypire Reviews is notoriously bad at writing reviews after she finishes reading books. I'm serious, her to be reviewed list is almost as long as my Platypire Read-A-Thon list, and that thing is monstrous. So after much cajoling on Joood's part, I have decided to help her out and once a week I'm going to write one of her reviews for her because I'm a good friend like that, and there is no way this could possibly go wrong. I will be writing the reviews as if I actually am Joood.

This weeks selection is Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.

Genre: YA Fantasy
Published: October 6, 2015
Pages: 528

Simon Snow just wants to relax and savor his last year at the Watford School of Magicks, but no one will let him. His girlfriend broke up with him, his best friend is a pest, and his mentor keeps trying to hide him away in the mountains where maybe he’ll be safe. Simon can’t even enjoy the fact that his roommate and longtime nemesis is missing, because he can’t stop worrying about the evil git. Plus there are ghosts. And vampires. And actual evil things trying to shut Simon down. When you’re the most powerful magician the world has ever known, you never get to relax and savor anything.

Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story — but far, far more monsters.

I was asked to write a 5 platypire review for this book. I don't know why Sofia asked me to do that when she only gave it 4 platypires herself, but I like to be accommodating whenever possible as long as it doesn't require wearing pants, so here is my 5 platypire review of Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.

It is a well known fact that I'm a Potthead and Carry On has everything I love about Harry Potter without all the nonsense of You-Know-Who trying to kill him at the end of the school year. There's ghosts, school and snogging (my three most favorite things in the whole wide world!)

I really related to Simon Snow. He's the most powerful magician his world has ever known and I'm the most powerful platypire my world has ever known. We're basically the same person. Also, my husband is constantly trying to hide me in the basement to keep me safe, at least during Nerd Night, which, I have to admit, is a very dangerous night in our house.

My only complaint is that the vampires didn't sparkle and everyone knows that sparkly vampires are the best vampires.

About the Author

Rainbow Rowell writes books. Sometimes she writes about adults (ATTACHMENTS and LANDLINE). Sometimes she writes about teenagers (ELEANOR & PARK and FANGIRL). But she always writes about people who talk a lot. And people who feel like they're screwing up. And people who fall in love.

When she's not writing, Rainbow is reading comic books, planning Disney World trips and arguing about things that don't really matter in the big scheme of things.

She lives in Nebraska with her husband and two sons.
