Synopsis

From Melissa Hill, author of A Gift from Tiffany's, comes The Gift of a Charm-another New York Christmas love story to restore your faith in miracles

Holly O'Neill knows that every charm bracelet tells a story. Many years ago she was sent one with just a single charm attached. The charms have been appearing ever since, often at challenging times, as if her mysterious benefactor knows exactly when she needs a little magic in her life.

As a result, Holly's bracelet is her most prized possession. So when she finds someone else's charm bracelet, she feels she has to try to reunite it with its owner-even if the only clues she has to follow are the charms themselves.

Review

I received a copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads giveaway program in the hopes that I would leave an honest review.

I was really excited when I saw this book in the mail at the beginning of December, because December inspires me to indulge in cheese Christmas romances in both book and movie form. Unfortunately, that's not what this book is, so I found myself somewhat disappointed in the end.

In spite of my disappointment over not getting a cheesy Christmas romance, I mostly enjoyed the story. The search for the owner of the charm bracelet was fun and intriguing, and I loved how some of the owners charm memories were woven into the story too.

My biggest issue with the book is that I kept tripping over the British English. Don't get me wrong, when I read a book set in the UK or Australia, I fully expect to see gads of superfluous u's. When I read a book set in NYC, I expect all the spellings to be familiar. Also, what the heck are fairy lights? I think the book was probably originally published in the UK before the US, but I really feel like it should have been translated to American since it's set in the U.S.

Overall I give it 4 out of 5 stars because I did enjoy the story and adventure, but it left me slightly disappointed, and the British spellings tripped me up. - Katie
