We are on to a new week for the Book Blogger Hop hosted by the lovely folks over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. This weeks questions is:
If you were to dress up as a literary figure {author or character} for Halloween, who would it be? (submitted by Michelle @ Life Among the Pages)
I'm kind of sad to admit that my Halloween costume game as a parent has been rather abysmal. I used to get really into dressing up, and for a few years I had two different costumes each Halloween (a work appropriate costume and a definitely NOT work appropriate costume). But I have dressed up as literary figures in the past. For instance, when I was in 3rd grade, I dressed up as Ramona Quimby (so I just wore normal clothes, but I had the short haircut like her and it totally worked). There was another year when I dressed up as Laura Ingalls Wilder in a dress that my mother sewed for me, so I went way authentic.
But if I were to dress as a literary character now, I'd probably dress up as Pennywise, but I'd go with the Tim Curry Pennywise as opposed to the new dude. Sure, people might confuse me as being "just another clown" but I just like that Pennywise better.
What literary figure would you dress up as? - Katie

There's nothing wrong with dressing up as a Beverly Cleary character for Halloween. I didn't even know the author was still alive, well, until I Googled her a few minutes ago. She's 102 years-old!
ReplyDeleteNot going to lie, my Ramona costume was inspired because the previous year, Halloween had been very cold and icy and my costume was a thin dress (I was a flapper), so I wanted a costume that could be made warm if necessary.

I think I went as Laura Ingalls before and my daughter definitely did - though not for Halloween, but for the school library Halloween event.
ReplyDeleteI think most adults would know you were Pennywise. :)

I'm originally from Kansas, so Laura Ingalls Wilder was a popular figure (and I'm pretty sure I wore the dress for something non-Halloween but classroom related too because of that.

Nice answer.
ReplyDeleteI am helping at a Halloween party this evening, but will only wear an orange Halloween shirt and a Mickey Mouse hat. :)
Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I'm probably going to just wear my unicorn onesie for Halloween this year (and because I always want to trick or treat more than my kids, I'll probably just stay home to hand out candy while my husband takes the kids around the neighborhood.

Nice!! Whether or not people recognized you as Pennywise or just a typical clown both are pretty classic scary Halloween costumes. Awesome answer. Have a great weekend Katie.

Yeah, it also requires way more effort that I want to put into a costume right now. Thanks for stopping by. - Katie
DeletePennywise is a pretty creepy costume! There was a kid who dressed up as Pennywise at the high school when my daughter was there and there were kids who were so freaked out they were crying!
ReplyDeleteI agree. He's definitely creepy. Thanks for stopping by. - Katie
DeleteI LOVE costumes that are more low-key like Ramona!! :-D
