After trading her life on land for one on the sea with Ryan and his family, Luna must adapt to a world of uncertainty among pirates.
Luna attempts to gather the pieces of her life that her lost mermaid mother left throughout the sea but soon discovers her life as a mermaid princess isn’t the only secret of her existence.
A life-altering discovery pushes Luna to embrace the pirate life to protect the ocean and influence them to change their brutal ways. But when her need to save a group of innocent boaters puts Luna under the pirate king’s scrutiny, she learns that it’ll take more than her knowledge of the sea to transform the dangerous surface. If she can’t, she and Ryan might never find the life they imagined. And worse, she faces losing everything she loves to the treacherous waves.

I was hired to proofread this book. The only aspects of the story that I influenced were the spelling and grammar. If you feel that my connection to the book makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.
I've been operating under the false belief that Ms. Moran is relatively nice to her mermaids. Obviously they still need conflict or there would be no story, but for the most part, her mermaids have fared far better than her demi-demons other characters. She obviously did a good job of lulling me into a false sense of security on that score just to destroy all my feelings with a sledgehammer in this book. Luna does not deserve what Ms. Moran has done to her, and I would really like to kidnap her to keep her safe from any future harm at Ms. Moran's hands.
This story has a lot of back and forth with characters that just can't seem to make up their minds, or when they do make up their minds, they end up changing them a million times, so you're likely to get dizzy trying to keep up with what they want to do.
My biggest issue with this book is with how Ryan's dad treats him. I have a hard time imagining a parent treating their own child that way (although I know there are children treated even worse every day and that saddens me greatly). I have some big hopes for what will happen to Ryan's dad in the next book, that's for sure.
Overall I give Pirate Waters 4.8674 stars. - Katie
Ginna Moran is the author of an array of both paranormal and contemporary young adult novels including the Demon Within, Falling into Fame, and Spark of Life series.
She started writing poetry as a teenager in a spiral notebook that she still has tucked away on her desk today. Her love of writing grew after she graduated high school and she completed her first unpublished manuscript at age eighteen.
When she realized her love of writing was her life’s passion, she studied literature at Mira Costa College in Northern San Diego. Besides writing young adult novels, she was senior editor, content manager, and image coordinator for Crescent House Publishing Inc. for four years.
Aside from Ginna’s professional life, she enjoys binge watching television shows, playing pretend with her daughter, and cuddling with her dogs. Some of her favorite things include chocolate, anything that glitters, cheesy jokes, and organizing her bookshelf.
Ginna is currently hard at work on her next novel.
