*Book Blogger Hop* 15 June 2018

We are on to a new week for the Book Blogger Hop hosted by the lovely folks over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. This weeks questions is:
You have just won a $100.00 Visa gift card. Will you spend the entire amount on a rare collector's edition you have always wanted, or buy several newly-published books? Explain your choice. (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)
Neither. You give me a Visa gift card and I'm going to use it on groceries, or maybe eating out with my family or going to see a movie in theaters. It's a Visa gift card and I can use it wherever I want, it's honestly not going to end up going to books (which is a strange answer considering the fact that I buy at least one book every single week I think).

If we pretend that I have to spend the gift card on books, it's going to be several books, not necessarily newly published, but I'm definitely not spending it on just one book (unless it's The Jewish-Japanese Sex and Cookbook and How to Raise Wolves because I'm really intrigued by the title of this book and it's not exactly cheap). But mostly, I'd want to load the gift card onto my Amazon account (so I'd use it to reload my Amazon gift card balance) and then have it available any time I see a book I really want on sale and then one-click. It would take me a while to use it up (roughly four months if my current spending rate is anything to go by), but that's what I would do.

What about you? Are you getting a super rare, but expensive book, or several newer releases? - Katie

  1. Good on your practicality.

The books you would pretend to buy sound good.

    Have a great day!!

    1. I mean, I don't know if eating out and going to a movie are exactly practical...but they at least benefit the whole family rather than just myself I guess.

  2. I really like the approach that you've taken to this question. In my own answer, I also mentioned how it was amusing that the question assumed we'd automatically spend the money on books.

I really also like your honesty with this answer. It's good to remember that, even if we are big fans of books, we don't necessarily have to spend every penny we have on them.

However, taking the question in the literal sense, I too would prefer to spend it on a variety of new releases, as I think that would make the money go 'farther' than repurchasing an edition of a book/series that I already own. Of course, this is my own preference, but I think I would also keep it aside for future releases too.

Feel free to check out my own answer if you wish!

    1. Exactly. I mean, if they'd said an Amazon gift card, my answer would have started out a lot more like the second half of my answer here, although there are other things that can be bought on Amazon too so...

  3. I would definitely spend it on wedding related bills... lol but if there was a rule that it had to be spent on books, I'd go for a few new releases :)
