Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Joood - Hooligan of Platypire reviews bossed me into doing this, so I guess this is a thing I do now.
This weeks theme is books I'd slay a lion to get early. Now I can usually be pretty patient when it comes to getting books because I'm well aware that I have horrible time management skills and major commitment issues where books are concerned. In addition to that, my feedback percentage on Negalley is not great (24% right now) thanks to a whole slew of books available to read now that piqued my interest that I just haven't gotten to reading yet. But sometimes I like to test my luck with Netgalley and see if I can get approved for books in spite of my feedback percentage (and I do make the effort to read those requests in a timely fashion, although I occasionally still fail to have them read by release day).
So for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday, I'm going to pick ten books from Netgalley's Teens/YA offers that I'd LOVE to read and request them (I'm well aware that Teen/YA are often hard to get approved for, so I'm not holding my breath to get any of these books, honestly). In addition to that, I will update this post as I get approved or denied for each book. Here we go.

Olivia Brownlow is no damsel in distress. Born in a workhouse and raised as a boy among thieving London street gangs, she is as tough and cunning as they come. When she is taken in by her uncle after a caper gone wrong, her life goes from fighting and stealing on the streets to lavish dinners and soirees as a debutante in high society. But she can’t seem to escape her past … or forget the teeming slums where children just like her still scrabble to survive.
Jack MacCarron rose from his place in London’s East End to become the adopted “nephew” of a society matron. Little does society know that MacCarron is a false name for a boy once known among London gangs as the Artful Dodger, and that he and his “aunt” are robbing them blind every chance they get. When Jack encounters Olivia Brownlow in places he least expects, his curiosity is piqued. Why is a society girl helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves? Even more intriguing, why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? Jack finds himself wondering if going legit and risking it all might be worth it for love.
Olivia Twist is an innovative reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale Oliver Twist, in which Olivia was forced to live as a boy for her own safety until she was rescued from the streets. Now eighteen, Olivia finds herself at a crossroads: revealed secrets threaten to destroy the “proper” life she has built for her herself, while newfound feelings for an arrogant young man she shouldn’t like could derail her carefully laid plans for the future.

In this terrifyingly timely tale for fans of The Eye of Minds, a teen and his group of friends find themselves on the run after using a genius lie-detector contraption to expose their corrupt government.
In a Putin-esque near-future America, the gifted and talented high school has just been eliminated, and Sam and his friends have been using their unexpected free time to work on a tiny, undetectable, utterly reliable lie detector. They're all in it for the money--except Theo, their visionary. For Theo, it's about creating a better world. A BS-free world, where no one can lie, and the honest will thrive.
Just when they finish the prototype and turn down an offer to sell their brainchild to a huge corporation, Theo is found dead. Greedy companies, corrupt privatized police, and even the president herself will stop at nothing to steal the Truth App. Sam sets his sights on exposing all lies and holding everyone accountable.
But he and his friends quickly realize the costs of a BS-free world: the lives of loved ones, and political and economic stability. They now face a difficult question: Is the world capable of operating without lies, or are lies what hold it together?

So here we have ten books that I have just requested on Netgalley because I am really quite drawn to them. There are definitely some trends that obviously draw me in cover art-wise. And in an interesting twist, I've already been approved for one of these books. I received the email while I was still building this post.
So how many of these books do you think I'll be approved for? - Katie
*If you're stopping by from the linkup, please be sure to drop a link to your post below so I can stop by and see which books you're dying to read.*
Once A King looks pretty good! Most of these are new to me, which makes me wonder where I've been on the new book front lol, but I'll be checking a few of these out.
ReplyDeleteThey were ALL new to me when I hopped on Netgalley to check out the Teens/YA selection (something I don't do often). Sadly I was denied that one, although I'm not too surprised (the approvals are more surprising considering my feedback percentage and the fact that this post will be the first thing the publishers see if they check out my blog before making a decision on my request).
DeleteThanks for stopping by. - Katie
I got denied Grim Lovelies as well-I think they'd already fulfilled all their requests or something. It's probably a good thing, I always get a massive Netgalley backlog this time of year because of Uni.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2018/05/01/top-ten-tuesday-157/
Yeah, my Once a King denial email said that they'd already given out all the copies they could...considering the fact that the book doesn't come out until December, I'm not sure if I believe that...although maybe most of those copies were pre-approved widgets sent out to emails, and just requesting gets me on their radar for future fantasy books (not that I'm a good candidate with my feedback percentage in the first place, but maybe.) I'm honestly more surprised at the approvals than the denials though, and now I have to make sure I get those books read before release day.
DeleteThanks for stopping by. - Katie
I was curious about Dear Rachel Maddow too, but don't have time to read ARCs right now. You have me curious about Brave Enough and The Crescent Stone as well! Hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I have time for reading ARCs right now either...but it is what it is...and these all looked so good when I was surfing Netgalley. - Katie
DeleteGreat post--"Olivia Twist" looks really good! I hadn't heard of it before but might look for it in the near future. If only I could READ all day instead of working! :) Great blog--will bookmark to visit again soon.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be able to just read all day long, but sadly I'm expected to do things like feed my children and clean the house.
DeleteThanks for stopping by. - Katie
I hear you! My time at home with my kiddo was the hardest job ever. Kudos to you for the challenging (and very often, unappreciated) work that you do, Katie. :)
