*Top Ten Tuesday* New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2017 (Jan 2)

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Joood - Hooligan of Platypire reviews bossed me into doing this, so I guess this is a thing I do now.

This weeks theme is new-to-me authors I read in 2017. I actually spend a lot of time reading new authors (when I'm not doing proofreading that is), so with the help of handy dandy Goodreads, this will be an easy, but hard, list to create because I'm going to have to pare it down some. So here we go.

Dan Poblocki - I listened to the first two audiobooks in his Shadow House series this past year (actually finished the second just yesterday) and I'm so ready for the third...but I have to decide if I want to splurge and use a credit on it (I got the first book free through Audiofile Sync's summer reading program, and the second was part of a sale). It's middle grade horror but they were fun stories to listen to and I didn't have to worry about where my kids were in the house while listening, so that's a bonus.

Rainbow Rowell - Please don't judge me for having not read Rainbow Rowell sooner (I'm judging myself enough as it is). I recently listened to Fangirl (which I bought during a 2 for 1 credit sale on Audible) and I already want to listen to it again. I wanted to listen to it again right after I finished it (but I have a not insubstantial audiobook library built up at the moment so I should really "read" some other books before I dive back into Fangirl.)

RaeAnne Thayne - I read The Holiday Gift for my 12 Books of Christmas reading challenge this past year and I found it to be a perfect holiday read full of cheese and happy feels. If that book is anything to go by, I know that other books by Ms. Thayne will provide the same type of feels so I'll know exactly who to turn to when that's what I need.

Liane Moriarty - I hesitated to add Ms. Moriarty to my list as I technically first read her three years ago (but I still haven't finished THAT book and had gotten less than 50 pages in before I put it down because I had blog responsibilities). But this year I read Big Little Lies for a book club meeting and had even almost finished the book before our meeting (did finish the book within a week of the meeting ending, and that's becoming a bit of a rare occurrence).

Amulya Malladi - I won a copy of her book, A House for Happy Mothers, on Goodreads, and even though the cover is hugely pink, I was excited to read it. In the end, the book left me with all sorts of questions for myself and really made me think about things.

Jillian Cantor - I read a copy of her novel, The Lost Letter, through Penguin's First to Read program and absolutely fell in love. A significant part of that love is probably because the book was half-set during WWII and I have yet to find a WWII era novel that I don't find fascinating.

Bunmi Laditan - I won a copy of Confessions of a Domestic Failure on Goodreads and I was super excited by the win, I was so excited that I actually started reading the book the day it arrived (I happened to be feeling particularly failure-y that day). If you are a mother who wishes you could be a Pinterest mom, throwing extravagant parties for pennies because you crafted all the fabulous decorations, or if Karen's kid posts on Facebook always make you feel less than perfect about your own parenting, you should definitely read this book (Karen's probably lying about pretty much everything anyway!)

Alright, so in my efforts to pare down my list, I managed to only pick out seven new to me authors to feature. We're all going to pretend that 7=10 though because aliens don't wear hats.

So who are some new authors you read last year? - Katie

*If you're stopping by from the linkup, please be sure to leave a link to your post so I can read about your new authors as well. It may take me a while to return comments, but I will when I get settled and have some time.*

  1. I attempted to read Liane Moriarty a few years ago, too, (The Last Anniversary, I think it was) and could not get into it. Grabbed Big Little Lies from the library last month and devoured it. Glad I gave her another chance.

I have a few books by RaeAnne Thayne on my Kindle (this is a recurring theme for me haha) but haven't read any of them yet. SOON!

My kids love Rainbow Rowell, I need to move her up my list soon!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!

  3. I won't judge you about Rowell because I still need to read her myself ;) Glad to hear you enjoyed her though.

  4. I've only read Fangirl & Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I loved Fangirl but disliked Carry On.

  5. Fangirl is a wonderful book. I also read some of Confessions of a Domestic Failure this year, but didn't have a chance to finish it before it was due back at the library and the holds list was so long, I wasn't able to borrow it again! But I thought what I did read was really funny. Great list!

  6. No judgement on Rainbow Rowell, I haven't read her either! I don't think I even own any of her books. And doesn't 7=10? :P
