*Book Blogger Hop* 6 April 2018

We are on to a new week for the Book Blogger Hop hosted by the lovely folks over at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. This weeks questions is:
Do you overextend yourself with too many reviews because you can't pass up a book in hopes you will get them all done or do you carefully plan and be sure you can fulfill the deadlines for all the promised reviews? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver's Reviews)
Yes. I always overextend myself on everything but I'm pretty sure I'm Wonder Woman and don't need sleep like a sparkly vampire, and also I'm a bit greedy where books are concerned and legitimately want pretty much all of them. At the same time, I don't really take many review requests and instead just get books from Netgalley where I don't actually have to interact with a person, which makes me feel less guilty when I don't get reviews posted in a timely fashion. Yes, I realize I'm a horrible human being. I'm trying to work on that, I promise.

Do you overextend yourself with your reading? - Katie

  1. Ha ha, I'm greedy about books too and I just want to own ALL THE PRETTIES. I wish I really didn't have to sleep, imagine how many books I could read with all that extra time? Yeah, I feel super guilty if I'm late and have to email a tour host or something, so I don't sign up for many of those these days.

  3. Hahaha I love your answer! Honestly I wish I could be a bit more brave when it comes to trying to get books from Netgalley. I haven't tried it yet! Awesome answer - have a great weekend Katie.

    1. Most of the books I've gotten through Netgalley were read-nows, although I've had some success with requesting as well (which lately baffles me when my requests are approved because I currently have a feedback percentage of like 25 on Netgalley). If you think of Netgalley like a game (which I've come to realize I do), it's lot less intimidating. You should really give it a shot (if you want to that is) because publishers are willing to take a risk on new requesters, just try to avoid going crazy with the read-nows so you don't end up overwhelmed by all the books you have to read (like I am). - Katie

  5. I'm currently requesting way too many books from Net Galley. I have no restraint lol!

    1. I've gotten to the point that when I request books on Netgalley, it's basically a game. Like "how low are this publisher's standards?" because my feedback percentage is 25 and I have over 100 outstanding books to review (although I'm not sure publishers can see how many outstanding ARCs you have, but I do a monthly post on my blog, State of the ARC, where I say exactly how many books I have from Netgalley to review so really that information is available to the publishers if they want to see it). But Netgalley has some read nows that are just so hard to resist too. It's a sickness I think.

    2. Oh wow!!! That's a ton!! I hope you can catch up one day!! I'm currently at 50% on Net Galley. I just read a few books over the weekend. I couldn't believe it because usually i'm such a slow reader. Good luck with your reading Katie <3

  6. I am totally greedy when it comes to books too. I'm too scared to pass them up in fear of missing out on something! I have difficulty passing up on book review requests because I don't want to upset the requester, so I know what you mean when you say it's easier not to have to interact with a person and feel pressured to meet specific deadlines. Still trying to work on knowing it's okay to say no and not overwhelm myself, which is sometimes tough to remember.

I posted a more indepth response to the question on my own blog, so please feel free to check it out if you want!

    1. It is so hard to say no and not be greedy with books! I've actually stated on my review request page that I likely won't respond to review requests because that not only absolves me of the guilt of not responding to emails in a timely fashion, but also means I never have to actually say no. The result is that I don't get a whole lot of review requests anymore, but I'm mostly okay with that at this point.

  7. I wish I didn't need sleep like a sparkly vampire. I'd get soooooo much done and I would probably (maybe) be caught up on all the things. We can keep trying!
