*Review* Sunflowers and Poppies by Stephanie Kelley

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Published: June 26, 2018
Pages: 255

My name is Poppy Colebrook. My father owns a well-known jelly company that has been around for nearly a century. My mother died before I was old enough to know her. I’ve been on tabloids and had my own sex tape scandal. And daddy’s husband spoils me with the latest fashions in clothing.

I’m your typical flamboyant, excessive, old monied, wild child. But I own a distillery. At the end of the week, I’m hosting a fundraiser to debut a new flavor of moonshine as part of a fundraiser for grey wolf conservation.

That’s about where the good in my life ends.

I caught my fiancé- correction, former fiancé- in bed with someone else. If the tabloids find out we’ve broken up, the fundraiser is doomed. Now I’ve got a week to deal with my ex’s family, my family, a mysterious stranger who keeps sending me sunflowers and poppies. And I’ve got a crush on a red haired lumberjack that keeps showing up in my dreams.

To make matters even more complicated, my ex has sent out invitations to other werewolf packs, inviting them to attend the charity fundraiser.

Oh, did I mention I’m a werewolf?

And my crush is human.

I was hired to proofread this book. The only aspects of this story that I influenced were the spelling and grammar. If you feel that my connection to the book makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

This was a different take on the classic werewolf story. There was some real patriarchal BS mentioned early on that pissed off my thinly veiled inner feminist. I was happy to see that Poppy was a strong, independent, badass of a woman in spite of what she'd been led to believe about werewolf society by her douchebag fiancé.

What kept me flipping the pages was the hope that Poppy and Harkin would find their way to each other somehow, and that he was as perfect for her as she believed he was. He just seemed like such a good, boy next door type, the kind of guy who would always treat a woman right, unlike her fiancé. Then there was the twist involving Harkin that had me squealing.

Overall I give Sunflowers and Poppies 4.143 stars. - Katie

I have a degree in Journalism but write supernatural and fantasy stories. Something about the juxtaposition of those two things never fails to amuse me.

I love silly hats and am easily distracted by amazing people, good wine, karaoke, and a gorgeous night sky.

My first short stories were released in the anthology Smut through Venefica Publishing on 12/20/2016.

The release date for Steal the Sun, my first full length novel, is February 13, 2017. Steal the Sun is a supernatural/fantasy novel. The pre-order link is live!
