*Stacking the Shelves* 26 August 2017

(Titles link to Amazon via Amazon Affiliate links)

Stacking The Shelves is a feature/weekly meme created by Tynga’s Reviews in which you share the books you are adding to your shelves, both physical and virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Now, I already have a monthly post I do featuring the books I get in the mail (and it's a lot because I have a serious Goodreads First Reads giveaway addiction), and I'm going to try to start posting my monthly Read-A-Thon posts again too (even if none of the Platypires will be joining me), which will cover the books I receive through Netgalley. But I also go to my thrift store at least once a week, and often leave with a bag full of books. It's such a common occurrence that I'm known as The Book Lady to the frequent volunteers (and I suspect that they've started scheduling their $1 bag of books sales for Thursdays simply because that is the day I usually visit.) So my Stacking the Shelves posts are going to focus on my thrift store hauls, because this is my blog and I do what I want.

On that note, here are the books I picked up this week.

Baker Towers by Jennifer Haigh - Historical fiction from the WWII ear in America...although the war does not seem to be the focus of the story.
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I know this book is featured on those lists I love so much, and I probably already owned it, but I couldn't remember for sure.
Brave New Worlds edited by John Joseph Adams - This is an anthology of dystopian stories, and dystopian is one of my favorite sub-genres.
Shamu and the Adventurous Seal Pup by Mark Shulman - My daughter asked for this book and I couldn't say no.
Awesome Things to Draw by Shane Nagle - My son asked for this book. He was hesitant at first, but I told him if he had any interest in it, we should get it.
Gilmore Girls: The Other Side of Summer adapted by Helen Pai - This is probably like a tv show novelization, I don't know, but I love the Gilmore Girls, so it went in my bag.
Dry by Augusten Burroughs - This is the guy who wrote Running with Scissors, and I've been wanting to read that book for ages. Odds are I'll want to read this one too.
Surf's Up, Geronimo! by Geronimo Stilton - I've got several books from this series for my kids. I don't think this was one of them.
Ricky Ricotta's Might Robot vs. the Mecha-Monkeys from Mars by Dav Pilkey - I think these books look like fun for kids about my son's age.
Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot vs. The Voodoo Vultures from Venus by Dav Pilkey - Same as above.
Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot vs. The Mutant Mosquitoes from Mercury by Dav Pilkey - Same as above.
Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot by Dav Pilkey - Same as above.
The Snow Jewel by Paula Harrison - This is from a series called The Rescue Princesses. My daughter is kind of into princesses, so I like the idea that she can have strong, resourceful princesses to read about.
The Sword in the Grotto by Angie Sage - This series looks almost like an Addams Family spin-off type story for elementary school aged children. I'm probably going to read it myself.
The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull - This book has a fun cover.
M is for Mama's Boy by Michael Buckley - From what I can gather from the cover, this book glorifies braininess in kids and is targeted towards middle graders. What's not to like about that?
Spellbound by Jane Green - The title of this book intrigued me.
The Alchemist by Michael Scott - This is from The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, and if that name sounds familiar to you, you're probably awesome. I so desperately want Dumbledore to have a cameo somewhere in this story, but that would probably violate J.K. Rowling's copyright or something.
Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes - I have several Marian Keyes books at this point I think. I might as well go for the whole collection right?
Last Chance Saloon by Marian Keyes - I really like the cover of this one.
Kaboom of Doom by Cathy Hapka - This is a Kung Fu Panda beginning reader.
Wreck-it Ralph Read-Along Storybook and CD by Calliope Glass - The CD is actually still with the book.
1001 Animals to Spot by Ruth Brocklehurst - This is an Usborne book sort of along the lines of Where's Waldo, but with different animals.
Life as we Knew It by Susan Pfeffer - I'm not really sure why I picked up this book, but it seems to be a middle grade apocalypse story, so right up my alley.
Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver - I really enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible when I read that, so anytime I see a book by Kingsolver, I buy it.
Jemima J by Jane Green - I think I was on a bit of a women's fiction kick this week.
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale - I see this as being a more fleshed out fairy tale...And I do believe the Grimm Brothers had a story about a goose girl.
Belle by Lesley Pearse - I bought this book thinking it might be a Beauty and the Beast retelling...but I'm not so sure it is. We shall see.
The Other Side of the Story by Marian Keyes - I wish I could remember why I'm so interested in Marian Keyes books, but I know there's a reason.
Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes - I don't think I had this book yet.
Peter Pan by Sir James M. Barrie - I recently mentioned in a review that I've never read Peter Pan. I should really remedy that.
Anybody Out There by Marian Keyes - I'm beginning to wonder just how many books Ms. Keyes has published.
Angels by Marian Keyes - Seriously, how many?
The Other Woman by Jane Green - I'm pretty sure this book legit goes with Spellbound. Or it was at least re-published with the same cover ideals in mind.
How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran - I think one of the Platypire's recently reviewed this book. If not, it's still a book I should probably use, because I could definitely use some tips on the whole being a woman thing.

So that's all the books I picked up this week. This haul cost me a whopping $1.50 because books were 50 cents a bag the day I hit up the thrift store. I'm going to miss this thrift store so much when we move back stateside.

What books did you add to your shelves this week? - Katie

    1. Yeah. Sadly summer is winding down which means books won't be on sale at my thrift store nearly as often in the upcoming months. They're still pretty cheap even when they're full price though. - Katie
