*Review* The Power to Break by Lisa Suzanne

Genre: Romance
Published: March 12, 2018
Pages: 260

As the bad boy drummer for the multi-platinum band Vail, Ethan Fuller thinks he’s invincible. He acts on impulse and has committed to the stereotypes of the rock star life with no regard for consequences. The one girl who had the power to tame him is just a distant memory.

Now that she has landed the opening gig on Vail’s next tour, Maci Dane is on the path to everything she always wanted. Fame, success, and money are trivial compared to her real objective: to break the heart of the one who broke hers.

When they meet face to face for the first time in nearly two decades, Ethan is reminded of the one who got away while Maci works tirelessly to hide her past. As she attempts to even the score, feelings from the past are rekindled. Will she give into love or use her power to break him?

I was hired to proofread this book. The only aspects of this story that I influenced were the spelling and grammar. If you feel that my connection to the story makes my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

I did not like Maci much at all. She came off as a spoiled brat who grossly overreacted to an overheard conversation. I feel like I should have been cheering for Maci to either get her revenge or hook up with Ethan, but I really just wanted her to get her own comeuppance. I really didn't want good things to happen for her and that made me less than enthusiastic about the story as a whole. I really spent way more time wishing someone would figure out what she was up to and call her on her bullshit than I did hoping for her to get what she wanted.

And then there's Ethan. Didn't really like him much either, although I at least felt a little sorry for him. Just because he was a bit of a jerk in high school doesn't mean he deserved to have someone playing games with him and his emotions. While I didn't really like him, he was at least a sympathetic character.

Overall I give The Power to Break 3.896 stars because the story was good, but I didn't like either of the main characters. - Katie
