*Stacking the Shelves* 4 February 2017

(Titles link to Amazon via Amazon Affiliate links)

Stacking The Shelves is a feature/weekly meme created by Tynga’s Reviews in which you share the books you are adding to your shelves, both physical and virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical stores or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Now, I already have a monthly post I do featuring the books I get in the mail (and it's a lot because I have a serious Goodreads First Reads giveaway addiction), and I'm going to try to start posting my monthly Read-A-Thon posts again too (even if none of the Platypires will be joining me), which will cover the books I receive through Netgalley. But I also go to my thrift store at least once a week, and often leave with a bag full of books. It's such a common occurrence that I'm known as The Book Lady to the frequent volunteers (and I suspect that they've started scheduling their $1 bag of books sales for Thursdays simply because that is the day I usually visit.) So my Stacking the Shelves posts are going to focus on my thrift store hauls, because this is my blog and I do what I want.

On that note, here are the books I picked up this week.

Coming Clean by Kimberly Rae Miller - I actually bought this book specifically because I need a book cover with hearts on it for an upcoming IG challenge. I probably already owned a book that fit the bill, but finding it would have been a nightmare and this was just so handy.
49 Dogs, 36 Cats, & a Platypus by Sidney Harris - Joood - Hooligan of Platypire Reviews has somehow wormed her obsession with platypi into my head because I just could not leave this book on the shelves. Side note, my copy smells like gingerbread cookies.
The Cat Who Walks Through Walls by Robert A. Heinlein - I grew up reading Heinlein because my father was quite the fan of his work. That makes Heinlein an auto buy author when I find his work at the thrift store.
Girl at War by Sara Nović - Honestly, I just found the cover intriguing.
A Lady of Hidden Intent by Tracie Peterson- I'm a fan of historical fiction and I'd contemplated buying this book last week. The fact that it was still there a week later means it was meant to be mine.
Dear Life, Stories by Alice Munro - I feel like Alice Munro is one of those authors that everyone is supposed to read. I might be wrong, but the book did win the Nobel Prize in literature in 2013.
The Da Vinci Code Special Illustrated Edition by Dan Brown - I read The Da Vinci Code ages ago, and probably already own the mass market paperback version of it, but this is the illustrated edition. It needed a new home on my shelves.
The Georgians by David Marshall Lang - This is one of those educational books I'm so fond of purchasing. Although if the current prices on Amazon are actually being paid, I'm thinking I should just turn around and sell this.
Jackaroo by Cynthia Voigt - This is one of those books whose purchase is bittersweet for me. My copy contains a loving inscription, and the previous recipient just donated it. It doesn't even look like it's been read. Sad.
Enchantress from the Stars by Sylvia Engdahl - I was really drawn in by the cover of this book, even though it's a middle grade novel. I don't even care.
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner - I got a copy of The Maze Runner in a Secret Santa gift exchange a couple years ago, now I can finally read The Scorch Trials (I bought the ebook in 2014, I could have read it ages ago.)
The Death Cure by James Dashner - I won't even have to wait two years to read The Death Cure after I finish The Scorch Trials now :)
Kingdom's Dawn The Kingdom Series #1 by Chuck Black - I'm pretending that this is like a middle grade version of Game of Thrones, but that's probably not accurate.
Kingdom's Hope The Kingdom Series #2 by Chuck Black - Ms. Stoger, my doctor doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.
Kingdom's Edge The Kingdom Series #3 by Chuck Black - Well there goes your social life.
Kingdom's Call The Kingdom Series #4 by Chuck Black - Hey Amber, do you prefer fashion victim or ensembley challenged?
Kingdom's Quest The Kingdom Series #5 by Chuck Black - You try driving in platforms.
Kingdom's Reign The Kingdom Series #6 by Chuck Black - Rollin' with the homies.

So this weeks haul was a bit smaller than last week, but it was also way cheaper coming in right at a whopping $2. I'm a big spender right. Now I've gotta' get the scent of gingerbread cookies out of my office because it's making me hungry. - Katie

  1. I love your stack! Although we don't have thrift stores in India, we sometimes have per kilo book sale where they sell first hand and second hand books and the prices are based on weight basis. I really loving going to those.

    1. I would probably hit those sales up too, if I were in your shoes. I've always been a fan of bargain and second hand books. - Katie

  2. Your haul is very nice. I don't have that many thrift stores by me. I hope you love all of your new books.

    1. I'm affiliated with a military base in Europe. We only have one thrift store where I can expect to find books in English regularly, but it's always well stocked because most casual readers are willing to get rid of read books before moving to keep their moving weight down. I'm going to miss that when we move back stateside. :) - Katie
