*Release Day Blitz* The Daring Assignment by Victoria Bright

I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, especially him…

I was living the dream. I had a great career as a romance author, a successful boyfriend, and am the daughter to a New York power couple. With my standing, my family groomed me to be perfect. Despite having it all, something was missing in my life.

In an attempt to break away from my privileged, suffocating life, I was in pursuit of finding my own path to happiness. After my literary agent gave me a risky writing assignment, I set out to write a best-seller that took me completely out of my comfort zone and into the arms of another man. He was only supposed to be a research toy, falling in love wasn’t a part of the plan.

As I become tangled into a huge web of lies, I quickly find out that I have a life changing decision to make. Do I choose to continue living a life of comfort, stability, and misery or do I take a chance on the unknown to preserve my happiness?

Victoria Bright is from a small town in North Carolina and currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina. She has been writing since she was in the eighth grade, starting with small short stories. As her classmates began showing interest in her work, she began to write longer stories, filling multiple spiral notebooks with her thoughts. During her freshman year in high school, her English teacher encouraged her to enter a writing contest in which she won local, region and state levels. She has entered many writing contests since and have won a few. Figuring out she had a passion to share stories with anyone who would listen, she set out to write her first book Love Unbroken.
Victoria is very versatile in the genre of books she likes to read. Her book choice mostly varies on her mood, but she is particularly interested in crime stories, romance, teen fiction, sci-fi, and is now venturing a little in paranormal fiction. As for her own writing, she doesn't really put it into a category or genre. She just writes whatever is on her mind and lets it create itself!
Her favorite quote: "I'm just a loon with access to a keyboard, a pen, and a 5-star notebook. Writing is my escape...so run away with me!"

 Synopsis
After years of playing the rake to hide a dark family secret, the Duke of Aversley feels tainted beyond redemption and cynical beyond repair. Never does he imagine hope will come in the form of a quirky, quick-witted lady determined to win the heart of another gentleman. Thanks to a painfully awkward past, Lady Amelia De Vere long ago relinquished the notion she was a flower that had yet to blossom. But when her family faces financial ruin and the man she has always loved is on the verge of marrying another, she’ll try anything to transform herself to capture her childhood love and save her family―including agreeing to participate in a bet between her brother and the notorious, dangerously handsome Duke Of Aversley. Bound by the bet, Amelia and Aversley discover unexpected understanding and passion beyond their wildest dreams, if only they can let go of their pride, put trust in each other and chance losing their hearts.
Excerpt
Colin rose, walked over to Amelia and grasped her by the elbow to lead her to the looking glass. “You do not properly see yourself, Amelia,” he said staring at her. She furrowed her brow. “I see perfectly fine and what I see is tall, gangly and graceless. He wanted to run the pad of his thumb over her skin and remove the lines of worry. Instead, he took a deep breath and continued. “The color of the gown does not make you beautiful nor in truth the opulence of the material. It is correct both can enhance beauty, but unless beauty is there it cannot be revealed.” He gripped her shoulders and turned her until she faced the looking glass. ”You already possess beauty. It’s here.” He brushed his finger down the silken skin near her shining eyes. “Real joy comes from your eyes. I also see beauty here.” He ran a finger perilously close to her full lips. “When you smile it’s genuine.” The tremor that coursed through her made him want to spin her around, tilt her head back and claim her delectable mouth for a kiss that would make her forget who the devil Worthington was. The problem was the kiss might make him forget who the devil he was. Appalled at the desire she inspired in him, he forced himself under control, inch by painful inch, until the detachment that had always been a part of his life when it came to women descended over him like a fog blanketing the countryside. He forced his fingers to release her arms and break the contact that made him feel tethered to this woman who was supposed to mean nothing to him. Yet words that needed to be spoken still burned his throat. “Never forget that a dress cannot make you beautiful, because you are already heartbreakingly so.”   About the Author

*Review* Her Final Sleep by Joe DiCicco

Genre: Horror
Release Date: September 21st, 2014

Review

The sleepy little town of Pine Lake doesn't see a whole lot of action, especially when the summer tourist season is over, but a breakout band of hot rocker chicks brings some excitement every Friday night. But rumor has it that they're hiding something in their old house just outside of town. Will Kyle and his friends find out what's going on before it's too late?

You may not know this, but I am a huge Stephen King fan, I have an entire shelf dedicated to my Stephen King collection, so it takes a lot to scare me. This book did not scare me, but it did have a couple minor twists that I did not see coming. Overall it was fairly predictable, but I'm generally pretty good at predicting upcoming events in books and movies.

The characters were fairly well developed for the roles they play in the story, although there were a couple characters that I would have liked to see a little more of. The book rotates through POV's, giving us glimpses into the story from several different characters perspective, and that was done quite well I thought.

The ending felt like it might have been setting us up for a second book, and I would not complain about that at all! It left me with some niggling questions that hadn't even occurred to me prior to the end and it was definitely not all wrapped up into a neat little bow, but that's half the fun of reading horror, continuing to scare yourself afterwards because "what if...?"

Overall I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, had a few unexpected twists, and fairly well developed characters. I would definitely recommend this book to fellow horror fans, or anyone looking for a little scare this Halloween season.

Excerpt

Cara's POV
Lying in the bed of Cam's truck, listening to the perfect sounds of Chris Young's "Lost”, I felt Cam's hand sneak over and grab mine. The warmth of his touch spread through my body.
"Tell me something I don't know about you, Cara," he said, turning his head towards me. "Something normal."
"What's normal?" I asked him, mimicking his actions.
"I don't know..." He paused and looked back up at the stars. "What's your favorite ice cream?"
I laughed, turning my attention to the sky. "Coffee. What's yours?"
"Strawberry. When's your birthday?" he shot right back and I felt as though we were playing twenty questions.
"March seventh. When's yours?" I turned to face him.
"February eleventh. Favorite color?"
"Orange...you?"
"Blue." He rolled over on his side, propping himself up with his arm. "Favorite movie?"
I mimicked his actions again so we were face to face. "Fight Club," I said and a huge smile crossed his face.
"Really? Why?" he asked, his curious grin growing wider.
"Because it's about so much more than fighting, it's about realizing that 'you aren't your fucking khakis’, that things don't matter. Materialism is dumb." I pushed up resting my head on my hand and Cam stared at me with wide eyes. "That and Brad Pitt is fucking delicious in it," I said, wiggling my eyebrows at him.
He busted out laughing. "I knew it had something to do with him."
"Shut up," I said, swatting his chest. "I'd love it even if he wasn't in it. What's yours?"
His eyes darted around like he was about to tell me a huge secret. Leaning closer to me he put his hand up to his mouth like he was going to whisper it into my ear. I bent closer, curious as to what his answer was going to be. "Fight Club," he whispered and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Don't mock me." I pulled away from him.
"I'm not! I swear. I love that movie," he admitted and I looked at him, cocking my head to the side, silently asking him to prove it. "The things you own end up owning you," he quoted as he stared at me. "That movie made me realize I wanted to fight." His face falling a little at his lost dream.
"What was it like?" I asked him, my voice serious.
"What?"
"Fighting...what was it like?" He shut his eyes and for a moment I regretted asking the question.
"It's addicting, liberating even. At least it was for me." He opened his eyes and gazed up at the stars as he got lost in his own mind. "When you're in the ring, you have no one to help you—it's just you and your opponent. One of you will win and one will lose. You have no one to rely on except yourself and you find out what you're made of real quick. In the ring it doesn't matter who you are, where you came from, or who your father is. The only things that matter are you and your fists."
He sounded proud as he explained it but I felt sad for him. Fighting was everything to him and in one swift moment it was taken from him. I wish I could've seen him fight, just once.
"Do you miss it?"
He didn't miss a beat. "Every fucking day." He looked over at me and a thin smiled appeared on his face. "Amber used to always tell me 'when you walk the path to your dreams sometimes you take a wrong turn and find a new one' and I believe that's what I did. I love firefighting, almost as much as fighting. And who knows, I may have dreams out there I haven't even discovered yet."

Review by: Kristi Droney

Cam Greer is the son of wealthy father who has dealt with women only wanting him for his money or the potential fame that his father can bring them. He meets Amber and believes that she is different and will love him for him and not for something he or his father can provide her. After she crushes his heart and his future in MMA is destroyed, Cam must start over. Cara Pratt is used to men walking out on her. It begins with her father when she is a little girl and then carries on to her high school boyfriend Lance. After picking up the pieces and starting over, Cara is not looking for love. She is focused on her job at Maggie’s
When Cam and Cara spot each other at Maggie’s there is undeniable chemistry. However both are untrusting and willing to fight any attraction that may exist. They have both been burned in the past and do not want to risk their hearts again. Can these two overcome the pain and heartache they suffered and find love once again? Will the past repeat itself and leave both of them hurt and broken hearted. Is there attraction and chemistry strong enough to overcome obstacles thrown in their way?
I read this book and thought it would be impossible to love the characters in this book as much as the ones in book one, Promise Me Always. I was mistaken. I had a small taste of Cam and Cara in the prior book, but in hearing more of their story, I fell in love with them immediately. This story was easy to relate to and for that reason sucked me in. Anyone who has suffered a broken heart or felt abandoned can find solace with Cam and Cara. I was able to connect with their feelings and got a good sense of their pain and apprehension throughout. I enjoyed the journey this book took me and hated when it was over. Call me greedy, but I wanted more!! Kari March did an excellent job with this follow-up novel and I highly recommend this read!!
I gave this book 5 stars!!
